Detroit River Fishing

Although some White Bass have begun to show up there is still good Walleye fishing in the Detroit River. Typically in May the Detroit River offers some of the most consistant Walleye fishing all year. More small males than anything else but less cold fronts and more steady water conditions.

To target Walleye in the Detroit River with less chance of running into White Bass start at Wynedot Municiple ramp and go up stream.  Remember The White Bass are begining their spawning run up the Detroit River so the lower River is bound to hold more Bass than the upper sections of the river.

One thing to consider this time of year is with warmer water temps bait is less of an issue. Minnow style soft plastics or 4 inch flat tail worms is ussually all it takes.

Muskegon Lake Perch Fishing

There are still some good numbers of Perch to be caught in Muskegon lake. Most of the deep water fish are gone but weedlines are still a good place to target. Minnows under floats is the best approach .

The black bouy to Bear Lake Channel near new weed growth in 7 to 10 feet of water is a good place to start. New weeds is the key. I would use larger than average minnows to keep the millions of small perch from getting you’re bait first.

Muskegon Walleye Fishing

Night time fishing for Walleye in Muskegon has been pretty good. We have taken Several Walleye Each trip. Fishing just before and after dark is best.

Most active fish are in the top 10 feet of the water column.

Fishing is on the decline. For the past several years post spawn Walleye have been gettign hit pretty hard.

Without anglers knowing it they have been effecting the overall Walleye population of the Muskeogn Lake and Muskegon River by taking these fish.

Don’t get me wrong it’s ok to keep fish but keeping every large Walleye you catch can hurt. With big walleye sbeing harvested at a more friequent rate along with lower plants and milking by the DNR the Muskegon fishery is on the decline.

I’m all for eating you’re catch . Just keep in mind the keeping everything you catch could be impacting you’re future fishing trips. I dont’ say this as a Fishing guide that spends time guiding on the Muskegon River and Muskegon Lake I say this as soemone who has caught a thousand walleyes out of the system who has seen the fishery decline first hand.

Good luck fishing and tight lines. Captain: Ernest Miller

Muskegon Perch Fishing

Perch fishing out of Muskegon in the big lake has been good. Muskegon lake has some good fishing left to be had but most of the Perch will be near the weed beds.

Most of the Lake Michigan Perch have left and returned to the big lake. If you’er looking for Perch out of the Muskeogn harbor I would try the reef out in front of the Water plant. The 90 foot hole straight out of the harbor is also a good area.

Flicker spinners with Spikes are you’re best bet.

Grand Haven Perch Fishing

Grand Haven Perch Fishing has been great for several weeks now. I would expect the Perch fishing to continue to be good for weeks to come.

Spikes is always a good bait for fishing perch out of Grand Haven. The thing about Perch fishing is you better have everything. Minnows ,Wigglers and spikes are a main stay for Perch fishing in Lake Michigan.Perch Fishing

Don’t leave home without a little of everything. Perch Flies tipped with Minnow heads, Wigglers and or Spikes is the way to go most of the time. Organge flies seem to work best.

I like the white river tackle flies much better than any of the others. THe hooks are better and the fly’s are more boyant than the others.

Try out in front of the Bil Mar resteraunt for the best action.
